Description
Courtrooms need officers to maintain legal records, and administer oaths to witnesses and juries. Court clerks also work to authenticate documents and direct legal proceedings.
Job Duties
- Prepare dockets for each case in the courtroom
- Transcribe the minutes of every proceeding
- Administer oaths to jurors and witnesses
- Direct court staff members
- Review legal papers and consult with court officials
Education and training
As a court clerk, you are expected to be familiar with legal terminology and legal documents. An associate's in paralegal or legal assistant studies is preferred.
