Description

Courtrooms need officers to maintain legal records, and administer oaths to witnesses and juries. Court clerks also work to authenticate documents and direct legal proceedings.

Job Duties

  • Prepare dockets for each case in the courtroom
  • Transcribe the minutes of every proceeding
  • Administer oaths to jurors and witnesses
  • Direct court staff members
  • Review legal papers and consult with court officials

Education and training

As a court clerk, you are expected to be familiar with legal terminology and legal documents. An associate's in paralegal or legal assistant studies is preferred.
